Nana's Chophouse is now closed. Nana's Chophouse closed last month... maybe not a surprise to some? There's a terrific new place there now, called The Pit (thepit-raleigh. com). It's a sort of mix between fine atmosphere and REAL NC BBQ.

Terrible - just terrible. My boyfriend and I chose Nana's on a Friday night in early October. We walked right in and got a table, which was a surprise for Friday night at 7:30pm. We ordered the antipasti, which left little to be said. It was served with the worst, slimiest, foulest bresaola and soppa, and 3 cheeses on a bed of stale almonds and canned vegetables. My boyfriend ordered a promising dish of lamb loin chops - however, when we were served, them lamb loin chop was an indistinguishable rectangular cut of BEEF, not lamb. For my dish, I chose the scallops - but paired it with the mushroom polenta cake and fava beans. The scallops were great - fava beans were cooked wonderfully, but the polenta cake was undercooked, cold, and was actually grits. The only saving grace to this meal was that the wine list was adequate to "heal our pain." This was the worst restaurant we have tried in Raleigh, and really, on the east coast. we will never go back!

It was OK. I ordered the "Cajun" Red Snapper with dirty rice, I got an over breaded (no where near cajun), burnt piece of some kind of fish on a bed of Rice-a-roni, Spanish Style with a random brownish sauce with some very sad little shrimp like thingies floating around it.

By the time the waitress came back the others were totally finished. Had the restaurant been busy I might have been more understanding, however there were only around 30 total patrons the entire time we were there and it was a Saturday night

The ultimate experience. I visited Nana's Chophouse on a busy Friday night. The atmosphere caters to the gourmet diner who seeks exceptional food. The chef personally delivered a number of special plates to our table, each paired with a glass of wine. My favorite dish was the pimento cheese risotto cake, topped with an arugula salad with smoked salmon on the side. I also loved the soba noodles sauteed with white truffle oil. I will definitely go again.

Disappointed after all the hype. Finally got a chance to go there with a few "foodie" friends and tried the new summer menu. Salads inventive and refreshing (but a caesar shouldn't have tomatoes!!!) Marinated NY strip disappointing for a chop house. Appetizers and dessert average. Service was slow despite only 5 tables seated. For such a great restaurant, very few diners on a Sat night. Will be surprised if they last.

Great experience - Corporate Group. I worked with Misty and her team to plan a dinner for a large group of out of town executives. I read some of the reviews here and discussed my concerns with Misty right away. She was empathetic to my concerns and assured me that the Nana's team would provide a great dining experience for my team. Misty and her team delivered. We used the semi-private room beside the bar which allowed for a mingling area on the cork floor and a seated dinner behind the glass wall. The shades could be pulled for privacy but I chose to leave them open. The food was great as always and the atmosphere perfect. No one complained about driving from Cary. Thanks Misty (and everyone else!). I will be sure to come again.

Our best dining experience in Raleigh yet!. My girlfriend and I decided on Nana's for our anniversary after hearing great reviews.

We were not disappointed! The food, service, and ambiance were all outstanding. We had salad, appetizers, entre, and dessert, and all were truly excellent.

Our server was spot on. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful when we had questions about wine and cheese, but not overly chatty. He was fast, efficient, and practically read our minds.

The atmosphere was great as well. Next time we might try to sit a little closer to the live band playing.

This dining experience really set the standard we now compare everything to. Thanks!

Nice place for classy corporate event. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nana?s Chophouse for my company event. As we had many colleagues in town we were well satisfied to have been able to experience the fine dining event we paid for. The valet and staff were professional and courteous, the beverages delightful, and the overall ambiance classy. Our server offered excellent wine pairing suggestions. The entire experience was easy and professional. As this was our second event here, I?m surprised at NC Builders experience below, but then again fine dining restaurants always have a few issues with people overdrinking or too cheap to pay their final bill.

Definitely priced over value, would consider food quality average. The atmosphere at Nana's is a bit stark with minimal personality. Seated quickly because the last two times, lots of empty seats. A romantic hue, but not very 'warm'. The first time we went, I ordered a large cesear salad, which was what I would consider extremely 'soppy' (a wilted feel) with huge (and an overbearing number of) full-sized anchovies. I love cesears but this was a bit tough to stomach. My friend sent back her pork t-loin because it was fairly rare in the middle. Some seemed to enjoy but I didn't hear anyone going nuts over how much they liked anything. My husband sent back his steak too, too rare. The bill was huge. Satisfaction, not for those big bucks.

Second visit, tried to give it another shot, just decided we ordered the wrong thing maybe. The service seemed fine but with our larger party it all took forever. The shrimp appetizer was three larger shrimp and a potato cake, all average at best. I ordered a $33 beef tenderloin that was wonderful, but really shouldn't have had a NYC price, $25 would have served it's purpose. However, I'm not sure I even ate the sides, the menu had a fancy description, but below avg. I seriously cannot justify the price at this place as hard as we've tried to keep an open mind.

Positives? Downtown trendy location, a bit on the chic side (but again, not very warm or decorative), right across the street from a fun club (this would be the biggest draw for us in the future, but cocktails only), convenient valet, decent service, and an interesting wine cooler.

Negatives? Average food at much bigger city prices.

Unfortunately will try something else next time, not worth the high price tag. Lots of good stuff to choose from downtown!
