Tips for Lemongrass Thai Restaurant

Cheap, fast, excellent. This place is near my office and I've been going frequently for lunch for about 6 years. Their best dish is their chicken red curry, which is amazing and always just perfect. Not too spicy, not too bland, perfect texture, and good amount of bamboo shoots and peppers and basil to go with the chicken and rice.

My colleage is a huge fan of their kee mau noodles, but they're a bit spicy and bland for me (I know- odd combination, sounds like an oxymoron, but it's somehow true). I say the pad kee mau at Sawasdee on Glenwood gets the nod there.

Lemongrass also has good appetizers. Normally, I wouldn't get one, but they have a lunch special that is a single-serving appetizer portion, a lunch entree, and a drink for $8. The chicken satay and the fried thai egg roll are both great.

Service has gotten a bit slower in the past couple of years because they've gotten so popular. It used to be tiny and quiet, and now it's tiny and crowded, but the food is still good, so I'm still a customer.

Eating bottles of sauce.. At one time they were good but now they are worse then a $5 plate in a mall Chinese restaurant. The rice was dry and hard and both dishes ordered were overpowered and swimming in strong sauce that you could not even taste the food. It was like eating a bottle of sauce with a little bit of overcooked chicken in it. They have changed a lot over the years and only seem to get worse. Anyone giving a good review must be their mother or never had real food before.

China in my Thai. My wife and I have eaten at Lemongrass several times and fine it to be the closest to our taste in Thai food in Raleigh. We had an unfortunate meal last night that began with our Larb salad containing pieces of crockery

Fine food; racist treatment. I've never had to write a review about this subject before, but it was so overt that my experience can be explained in no other way. This is honestly quite surprising, as most other reviews are so glowing (though most are 5-7 years old, I now realize). The food was good, yes, but not "ragingly spectacular," as other reviews may lead one to believe. I've had better in Raleigh. My concern is not with the food, however, but with the overtly discriminatory treatment I received here.

As a person of color, I was treated differently than EVERYONE else at surrounding tables. I was asked if I was ready to order every 60 seconds (literally) for the first several minutes after arriving. After ordering my beverage, I went immediately to the restroom to wash my hands. Upon returning, the waitress was asking again for my order when she clearly saw I'd just returned. (I was literally sitting and picking up the menu.) After about three short minutes of perusal, once I did state that I was "ready to order, please," she emitted a deep, shoulder-heaving sigh, flashed an "I don't want to do this" smile to a Caucasian couple, abruptly dropped the smile before turning to me, then dismissively took my order.

Things got worse as the evening continued. My waitress told me they'd "run out" of the exact things I saw another table (a Caucasian couple) receive. Following this, she hid inside for the duration. The waitresses preferred to shout from the door to my outside table instead of coming tableside as for everyone else. My drink was never refilled once. Not one time was I asked if I needed ANYTHING once my meal arrived ... except a box. I was obviously still eating and stated that I did not need one, thank you. Even still, a few moments later, I was given it anyway -- along with the check -- while I was still clearly fork-to-mouth eating. (They didn't close for an hour and a half yet, so it was not that I was lagging.) I did request things, but never received them because the waitstaff all conveniently disappeared, or hurried away after checking on other tables while I sat unattended the entire time. One waitress only finally returned once she saw that I'd readied the bill.

I was dressed with class, clean and neat, and am very mild-mannered/low-key by nature. I was courteous the entire time, even after realizing what was occurring. My point in saying this is that it was not my demeanor or behavior that spawned this treatment. If you're a Black american, I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant. The racist treatment I received was amazingly disheartening, sad, and ignorant.

WE LOVE THE CHICKEN PAD THAI. THE BEST chicken pad thai --- we order chicken pad thai no tofu 1 star spicy....try it!

Kids will love chicken fried rice with pineapple.

Take it home -- travels well.

Overpriced good food with no atmosphere. I think take-out is probably the way to go as it has all the ambiance of a dentist's office. I was shocked to have a thai meal for 2 come out to over $40. The Bangkok chicken was satisfying but overpriced for its' portion, the mixed seafood was also good but we were left suprised that we didn't have leftovers and our bill was so high. Maybe go back for lunch?

Can't Order. We've been living here for 3+ years and have heard great things about Lemongrass. I have tried to order delivery from them numerous times and they never answered the phone. I finally got through about a week ago (likely a week day) and we ordered and it was still great food. I tried to order tonight (a Friday) and nobody answered the phone again - for 4 calls. Maybe their driver only works every third week or something??

Where are the 2009 reviews?. I wanted to comment on a more recent review and now several of the newer ones are no longer listed.

Lemongrass is a wonderful restaurant and I am glad to see the success that they have reached.
