Tips for Barton Hayes Nails

July 13, 2012

I gave this nail salon a try because I'm new to the area and have tried Cameron Village and Oberlin Nail Spa without falling in love with either. I wish I had listened to the other reviewers and skipped it!

While I did find a good selection of poorly organized shellac colors- the bad outweighed the good. First of all, it is awkward to park behind the building and walk in the back door, stand there and wait for one of the employees to acknowledge you. Secondly, the nail tech ripped one of my cuticles with the buffing block, knew it, and didn't even apologize (she actually didn't even speak one word to me- no hello, no thank you, nothing!). Thirdly, it IS full of obnoxious women as others have said and when one of the customers walked out several of the girls mocked her and the owner even made a rude comment for all to hear.

Beware, if your favorite part is the lotion massage for your hands and arms- they skip this step here. They do awkwardly rub your shoulders while your nails dry, though. The price for mani + shellac isn't posted and they don't have a website to outline their services either. I was pretty surprised to be told it was $35, especially considering the posted price for a regular polish mani is $14 and they didn't need to remove shellac from my nails to begin with. I tipped my girl well since she was meticulous with the polish job and applied three coats.

When I got home, I poured hydrogen peroxide on my torn cuticle and put lotion on my own hands. Such a bummer, I'll go back to Cameron Village next time.

Pedicure good. Service BAD.. While my pedicure did look great, the service here is sub par. The ladies talked and laughed with each other the entire time and made me feel as though they were laughing at me. Then when it was time to pay the lady stood over me and questioned whether or not I was going to tip her. She also told me that she would rather have a cash tip (even though I had none). All in all, the staff seemed annoyed that I was in their shop wasting their time.

Bad Customer Service. I was told this is "the best nail place in Raleigh"... which couldn't be further from the truth - I hope! First of all, the people who work there obviously are talking about all the customers amongst themselves - and think that no one can tell. She brought out the tools in a bucket and didn't take too much care cleaning anything. The real problem however was that she cut out the side of my large toenail - and did it without asking! Before I could say anything - it was cut. When the nail grew out it dug into the side of my toe and caused and infection. I had my toenail removed last week due to the infection which was very painful. Now I still have an infection in the toe and and I can tell you I am not too happy because it is very painful and I am going back to the doctor today. My physician said he has seen it many times. (I have never previously had a problem with any kind of infection or grown in toenails.) All in all they are rude, not clean enough and they have ended up causing me a lot of pain. I will never go back.

Editorial Review by Kristine Forrest-Seawell. Quaint nail salon equipped with pedicure massage chairs and a staff of experienced manicurists.
