Poor treatment of customers!! I wouldn't go back there!. Very poor treatment of customers. Firstly the food took a really long time to arrive and to top that they forced us to leave the restaurant in a hurry cause it was nearing their closing time. Extremely disrespectful! They forced us pay the checks while we were eating so they could drive us out immediately after.
Horrible food.
I went to this restaurant after reading the reviews on citysearch. I found following issues,
1. It was 90+ outside and the place was extremely hot. Not sure if they were running AC at all. There were only 2 or 3 fans running covering the whole area
2. Food was horrible. The coconut chutney smelled bad. Parathas were stale. I didn't find sounth Indian things like Dosas any better. Overall disappointing food taste.
Not sure if the positive reviews here are old reviews or I went on a bad day today (Wed buffet)
give it a try!. We really enjoy this place!! If you are looking to please everyone in your party you need to try it. I often try new dishes and are never dissapointed.
Always good. We've been eating at Udupi since 2002 and always enjoy it. Just ate there 2 nights ago; two of us dined lavishly for only $38 pre-tip. Service is usually excellent, though when they are crowded, service can lag. And some of the tables are a bit close together if the restaurant is really packed. Those are the only downsides; the food is always wonderful and I'm delighted that the owners have kept the quality up over the years. We've never once had a bad meal there.
A nice change. As someone who used to be vegan and vegetarian at various points it was refreshing to be able to pick anything off the buffet without having to worry (especially if you're new to Indian food). When they are busy sometimes you don't get your glass refilled as much and sometimes when you ask questions there is some language barrier. I enjoy eating here and have mentioned it to vegetarians I know who live farther away than I (its a bit of a drive) that it is worth the trip if you like mildly spicy Indian food. My husband does not have a hard time finding things to eat either (he's always been a meat eater).
Most wonderful Indian food ever!!!. One can only wonder at the range of opinions shown for this great restaurant...It seems that actual Indian people recognize and delight in the food! To me that says it all...I love this place and thier food is great. The service has always been polite and attentive.. I have gone there like,20 times with NO complaint...I did not drop in just one time to try to impress out of town snobs, I do not have a waitstaff persecution complex and I am not "scared and confused" by a plate of food that isn't from KFC. I have to ask all detractors...is it ignorance or are you being paid to slam this establishment? Blatant advertising for another location is pretty transparent...and have many of you ever really encountered a place that is consistently bad as these seemingly paid-off bad reviews are trying to make it seem? " I walked in the door and a rude dark skinned man threw 8 week old curry on my episcopalian wedding dress! Then he slapped my puppy and sold my grandmother!" Blatant racism abounds."They re-serve the food off of plates others don't finish-it's an Indian thing" Are you kidding me? Does anyone believe this? How about this...if you can't stop being a r@cist -j3rk long enough to realize when perfect food is placed before you...go eat somewhere else and spare us the slander. if you are looking for some heavy "theme-y" ambiance ,sort of an Indian Medeval Times...please remember...the waitstaff are not trademarked mascots in funny suits anxiously awaiting the opportunity to give you a little belly dance...these are real human beings just as deserving of respect as anyone. If you go there with an open mind and a desire to learn about and enjoy really good food, Udupi Cafe is there for you.
Too much MSG !!. Unimpressive food. Afterwards I felt very heavy, slept and woke with headaches. I think they are putting too much MSG on the food to enhance it's flavor. Mediocre Indian food.
Frozen Indian food - heated up and served. I ordered a plate of vada and they gave me the oldest and hardest vada I have ever eaten in my life. I asked the waiter about it, he went inside, came back and told that they cannot make any vada. They are serving all old and heated stuff. And the prices are expensive as well. I will never go back to that place and I suggest the same to everybody reading this review.
I am a "Meatatarian" and I could eat at this vegetarian buffet every day !!. I am from South India and this food is very authentic. I can eat the excellent Idli, Dosai with sambar and coconut chutney and pakoras from the buffet every day. I have brought some friends here and they are slow to changing from the usual meat curries and breads from traditional Indian restaurants. I think they should definitely serve samosas and more potato dishes on the buffet.
