Not if you have plans for the evening after dinner...

We went here before a concert in Clayton. We arrived at 5:45 p.m. We ordered at 6 or so. We got our food at 7:20. Our show began at 8:00. Needless to say, we didn't have much time to eat. Then again, the food wasn't that great anyway. I had a sundried tomato salad which was ok. My husband had a crab stuffed pasta (WAY too much cream). His father made the comment that the "crab wasn't in the pasta but had possibly been introduced to it at some point". It wasn't terrible but it was not at all worth the wait or the price. Most of the entrees are over $20. I was really disappointed. I was hoping for better since I am sure that Clayton is in need of a few cafe/bistro type restaurants to help the downtown but, sadly, this isn't one of them.
- Pros: Very close to the Clayton Center
- Cons: SLOW service, average food, very pricey
Avoid this restaurant at ALL COSTS!! Overpriced and Horrible

This was our first and last time to this establishment. Servers were very unprofessional and had WAY to many peircings to be serving at an overpriced restaurants like this. Restaurant was not very nice inside, rather very dull and old. Servers did not even know what lobster bisque was even though it was a special ono the menu for the night.
We had some problems with our meal and Manager/Chef was unwilling to come out and speak with us. We were told he was too busy plating food for a table and we would have to call him. That is just ridiculas to be told to call a manager. Everything is ALA Cart here, meaning you do not get a salad or bread of any sort with the full entrees. Entrees are about 25.00 each and salads start at 7.00 for a house salad. For around the same cost visit Sullivans or Ruths Chris. Everything about this place was very unprofessional and you could tell they wanted to be an upscale restaurant, but the only thing upscale was the prices which were overpriced.
In addition our entree (WHICH IS ALL WE ORDERED) took 1 hr and 5 minutes to arrive. We were told the chef was busy with a full restaurant, however looking around we only counted 4 tables with people, a total of 12 customers. I must say we were warned at the beginning that the entrees would take awhile, but it was just ridiculas.
Avoid wasting your time and money here. It is not professional at all, overpriced and very unimpressive.
- Pros: When I left and went out to my car
- Cons: Most everything!!
Not so great

I've eaten at Main Steak a few times and the most recent time will definitely be my last. I made reservations without incident and we were seated and then I watched the servers fight with the hostess over who would serve us...neither wanted to. I had never seen such an open argument in a restaurant; they didn't seem to care that I was watching them and could tell what the problem was. Finally, after about 30 minutes, a busser with a cold came over. Since we were there with visitors I stuck it out, but by the dessert course I was feeling a little ill at the thought of the sick busser touching the plates, the silverware, the glasses, etc. The last straw was when dessert was served and I saw the cold in action as he served the dessert. I felt bad for him that he was put in that situation and also that he had even come into work. Nothing was ever said to us about the wait, the service, anything. I used to like going there so I didn't have to go into Raleigh but the 45 minute drive is worth not ever patronizing Main Steak again.
- Pros: It's close by.
- Cons: badly lit parking lot, service
Our Local Favorite

Others fail to achieve in their pork chop what Main Steak serves. We have only lived in Clayton for 3 months and have found ourselves at this restaurant 5 or 6 times already. Any service mistakes are incredibly minor and more than made up for with the sincerity of the staff and their desire to make your meal a dining experience! Kudos to the chef, together we have tried most all of the appetizers & half of the entrees without a bad plate yet. Be sure to indulge on the chefs homemade desserts, His creme brulee creations are my ideal way to finish a meal. I only wish there was more of a selection on the wine by the glass list.
- Pros: Service, Chef, Food
- Cons: wine by the glass
Great Find

My wife and I went to Main Steak this week and we were very impressed. I had the 16oz ribeye and my wife had the lobster and both were PERFECT!! The service was great, very attentive but not smothering. The atmosphere was very quaint as a bistro should be. We are very glad to have this in out town.
- Pros: great food, atmosphere, service
