Steaks are Great -- Watch out for the Sashimi Tuna! – I come here often when travelling and usually stick to the steaks -- a bit pricey, but generall delicious.
Last trip I tried the sashimi tuna appetizer. The tuna was bright fluorescent red -- and the only way tuna gets like that is fake carbon monoxide treatment. This is such a dangerous way to process tuna it is illegal in Japan! (the tuna can be totally off, and it hides the bad tuna from the customer). Bad move Chop House -- get real tuna!
The food that was cooked correctly was excellent. The service was not too bad. The price.......a little high. – Well my parents were in town and wanted to try a NC steakhouse. I gave them 3 options, sullivans, ruths chris and chop house. They picked chop house. We ordered a seafood sampler app and it was decent in size for the price. We ordered2 different steaks and lamb chops. All were asked to be med-med well. My steak came out perfect. My dads and moms were bloody rare. I thought bloody rare was illegal in NC? I can't get it that way even if I desired at other places. We sent them back and the chops came back ok and my dads steak was 70% as rare as the first one. As my dad was hungry and not in the mood to argue he agreed to eat the outsides and microwave the middle tomorrow. The waitress did not offer us any free drinks or apps or dessert. The bill was 222$. I didn't see the tip. Knowing my father he left 25% regardless. Its very unfortunate that a steak house can't even cook steaks correctly and also unfortunate that the wait staff do not know how to make up for badly prepared food. I I was tipping she would have gotten the req. 15% and she could have taken the difference up with the cook. Good food if its cooked right. A little too pricey. With the economy the way it is and how they were not very busy you would think they would do what they could to get new business and to keep what they have. They obviously don't care too much and are satisfied with resting on their laurels.
Definitely one of the top dining experiences in the Raleigh area. – Excellent venue for a quiet, succulent dinner. Service is excellent. Steaks were excellent. The Oyster salad is in and of itself worth the visit. High dollar, but if the prices do not bother you too badly, this is a definite place to go in Raleigh. It's exactly what we would expect a chop house to be.
Come for the food, go somewhere else for the service! – I won't give it one star, since the food at the Chop House is AMAZING. My husband and I have dined here four times in the last year, and each time the meal was well worth the $80 tab. However, the service was absolutely appalling... at each meal. The waitstaff couldn't care less about you, and are often rude. They must pay their waitstaff well, because they're obviously not into earning good tips. One waiter argued with me when I observed that something was amiss with one of our orders. The last time we went was the worst and is the reason we will never return.
We had an older gentleman for a waiter who came over to ask us if we'd like cocktails to start our meal. My husband and I don't drink much, so we declined. He looked at us like we'd insulted his mother, and walked off before we could ask for two glasses of water. We sat for almost ten minutes before he reappeared to take our drink order, and my husband had to literally grab his sleeve to get his attention after he walked past us several times with empty glasses and no bread. He wouldn't look at you when you were speaking to him, and often interrupted us when we were trying to place our order. He made us feel guilty for asking him for something. Getting refills was a chore. When we declined dessert, he snapped: "Well I guess you'll be wanting your check then."
Naturally, we were very angry and as such left a tip commisurate with the level of service we'd received.
The waiter hovered over me as I was signing the bill and had the nerve to ask me if I was sure this was correct. I told him that given the evening's experience, he was lucky he got that much.
My husband's family owns a restaurant, so I feel that we have a very realistic expectation of what's acceptable and what's not. I understand that people sometimes have bad days, and that's okay...but this was unreal. And it happened more than once. Yeesh.
25th Wedding anniversary – After 25 years of marriage I wanted to enjoy a nice dinner with my wife. I made reservations at the new Chop House in Cary. (Well in advance) I explained several times that it was my 25th and requested a nice table and a little out of the way. I was trying to support our local restaurants. We arrived and were taken immediately to our table.. In the bar staring at sports center. We asked for another table and was promptly taken outside next to a family of four with two young children who weren't exactly excited about being there. We asked our server why we were seated in the bar and she expalined they had given our table to someone else. My wife called the next day and spoke with the manager. He explained there was a misunderstanding and wanted us to come back for the service of a lifetime. I Shouldn't have to come back for service of a lifetime. Everyone should get good service without complaining. You knew it was my anniversary and I was offered the bar. I will never enter your restaurant again...
Wow... – I am a fan of all things meat and I have to say, this place does it right. I had the 10 ounce filet, and it was so tender I didn't even need the steak knife I was given. The decor is fancy schmancy, like a country club or whatnot, but I didn't feel out of place in my less than formal attire. The service was great, our server explained everything in enough detail to inform us but not bore us. He asked us if we wanted water, which I thought was great because of the drought. It was a little pricey, but well worth it, and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Will definitely be back. I only wish I knew about this place earlier, because it is sort of tucked away by the airport. Google maps is the key.
Worth saving up for – Steak that you barely need a knife for and the Filet Oscar is out of this world. When you order a rare steak, you get a rare steak. The service is somewhat formal but not at all cold. The caprese salad, (fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil ), starter is huge, don't order it for just yourself and hope to finish your meal. I honestly prefer this to the Angus Barn.
Best steak – The Chop House has the best steak I've ever tasted. I've been there twice. When we sat in the back dining area, the service was good. When we sat in the bar area, our server was not very attentive. Be prepared to stay for a couple hours and spend at least $50/person (including drinks). The experience will be well worth it.
Excellent Food – My husband and myself met friends there for dinner with a 3 year old child two weeks ago. I have been there several times in the past and have always been impressed with the food. It is always top notch. Our waiter was extremely attentive and kept our drinks full as well as got items from the salad bar for our friends child to munch on. I was very impressed at how attentive he was to the little one's needs and our needs as well. The food was excellent. We ordered the Beef Tenderloin Tips and Calamari for appetizers. They were excellent. The dinner was excellent as well. Two of us ordered the Mahi Mahi special, one ordered a steak and the other ordered lamb. All were excellent and cooked just right. I would definately recommend this place and plan to go back again soon!
Won't be back. – Wait staff could have cared less that we were there, we didn't have anyone ask us what we wanted to drink for quite some time, our food came out after a very long wait, and actually, everything was either average or below average. I can't believe how different some of these reviews are. I WISH I could say I had a great experience, but I didn't. Nor did the people we were dining with. The waiter frankly was borderline rude Not worth the hassle.
