Tips for Von Kekel Aveda Salon Spa

Will bump you off schedule for a higher paying customer.

I had an appointment that was made 2 weeks ago. It was a model appointment meaning you pay a fraction of the cost because you let some one in training do your hair. I got a phone call yesterday to re-confirm my appointment. I just got a phone call at 2:30 the day before my appointment from the manager saying that the person who booked me was confused because they don't do models on Saturday, they don't have enough chairs. Then she proceeded to tell me that If I wanted to come in w/ a senior stylist and pay full price I could keep my appointment! (No thanks, If I'm going to pay full price I'm going to go to my regular stylist at a different salon). So they bumped me last minute b/c some one paying "full price" wanted my slot. After reading other comments perhaps it was Divine intervention keeping me away from letting an un-experienced person and un-professional salon touch my hair. But a tip the the salon (although I know they won't care). You shouldn't tick off new potential customers.

I was 5 minutes late for an appointment with Crystal, after driving 25 Miles I was asked to reschedule

Although the hairdresser was in the salon and apparently had no other customers or appointment urgently waiting, the salon was empty for customers

The level of arrogance and complacency driving my complain session with the service desk attendee is unacceptable in any business

If you have a long drive, to get to Van Kekel with risk of traffic etc.

Be ready to be rescheduled

This little incident cost me 50 Miles of driving and 1 hour of waited time

NEVER again!. I originally started going to Von Kekel in Cary several years ago. I have very sensitive skin and need to go to a salon with knowledgeable staff and good products for waxing. Otherwise, bad things happen.

When I first started going to Von Kekel, I would go for both a cut and wax. There was a stylist there by the name of Don, who I kept returning to the salon to visit because he was so good. Even when Don left, I continued going for my brows due to my sensitive skin.

I honestly had no desire to continue going to this salon for any other reason at that point. I dealt with very rude receptionists on multiple occasions and also had a couple of terrible haircuts. But alas, I still kept coming for my waxing.

Yesterday, I had the lovely experience of not only having my skin burned in 4 places (which has NEVER happened before in SEVEN YEARS of being on acne medication) but also being lectured about my medicine. Evidently, I'm supposed to go against my doctor's orders and stop taking my medication for a week before getting waxed. And that week should be the week of my period, when even with good medication, someone with a history of severe cystic acne is likely to have a few breakouts.

It gets better.

Not only was I lectured, but I was also told that had the person who did my brows known that I was on medication, she wouldn't have waxed me at all. She said she was going to finish them because she had already started but didn't even do a good job (there are still some hideous thick areas that should have been cleaned up).

So, in over 7 years of being on medication, I have never been burned like this. But it's somehow my fault that it happened, and I needed a lecture from someone who works in a salon, even though my doctor gave me my prescriptions because the benefits outweighed the risk? Lovely.

And the best part??? The person who does my waxing when I am home in New Jersey is so good at what she does that, even WITH my oh noes so dangerous medicines!!11, she manages to do a fabulous job. Not only does the entire waxing job get done, but I also barely get red at all when she does it anymore.

Hm.

Seems like someone needs to re-educate herself and learn how not to be totally rude and full of lectures to customers when SHE screws up.

Relaxing Spa and Salon. I have been using Von Kekel for a few years now. I have found the staff to be friendly and Krystal always cuts my long layered hair just right. I also get my brows waxed here and am always happy with the results. It's a calm and quiet atmosphere usually, though I think they have a TV if I recall correctly- which I could do without. I feel like if a customer were not satisfied- they would make it right. I think communicating about a hairstyle is tough- best to be descriptive and ask for feedback if you want something specific.

Excellent Salon. I have been going to the Von Kekel Aveda Salon at the Cary location for over 3 years. I have been very pleased with my stylist Leah, the friendly reception, timely services, and beautiful environment.

Not all stylists are as skilled at this salon though. When I could not schedule with Leah to cut my hair since she was on maternity leave for a while, I was told that a couple other stylists could do my hair. This was not the case. Long story-short, I am now growing out my layers due to both substitute stylists over-layering my long wavy hair. Leah is awesome though. She stays current with training and trends, listens well, is honest, approachable, and confident. I love having her as my stylist!

Also, I went for a massage within the last 6 months and Michelle was wonderful! She was so skilled and even taught me about the techniques she was using.

Overall, I have been having good experiences at this salon and I will continue to go here.

One thing to keep in mind... at any salon it is key to be able to make sure that you and the stylist are on the same page. Also you need to find a stylist who won't just give you a style that you see in a magazine. The stylist needs to be aware of your hair texture, hair care routine, and facial features. Have the discussion and most likely if both stylist and client are realistic, then you will love the outcome.

Worst Haircut I Have Ever Had. Worst haircut I have ever had..when I checked out, the girt at the front desk said, "That will be $55.00". I was shocked. I thought I would pay about $45.00. That's highway robbery! I took a picture of a simple short cut...I already have short hair, with great texture, so I surely thought the stylist could duplicate the cut...was I wrong! She chopped one side so short that it stuck straight out! I have a regular stylist, with over 20 years experience, who was unavailable and out of town...all I asked for was a simple cut. My stylist will be correcting this cut tomorrow for $15.00 less. I will never go back to Von Kekel!

Above and Beyond. I have recently moved to the area and have visited other reputable salons in the Cary- Apex area and have had below average service done. I have very hard hair and needed some one to just take a little extra time, no one in the area had done that until I went to Von Kekel and was placed with Monica, a senior stylist. She listened to my griping and understood my situation. I did not want stripey hair that I was getting else where, she gave me the BEST color I have ever had!!! Not only am I picky, but she had to mask the awful job that was done before by another salon. Monica comes highly recommended to any one that knows what they want, she will listen! I was also given a head massage and hand and arm massage with my service. Monica really knows how to give excellent customer service! Thanks again!

World of Difference.... I want to comment on the If Black stay BACK posting. I am a frequent client at Von Kekel, and I am disgusted by the comments made about My Stylist. I want to state the obvious that Caucasian hair and African American Hair have a world of difference between them. I also have had my hair Butchered by many people who said they could do my hair cut and in truth had no clue what they were doing. I personally would appreciate someone who would tell me the truth about not being comfortable with my hair, rather than letting me Pay a large sum of money and screwing it up. This stylist showed a lot of class saying they could not work on your hair, and I wish more people told the truth about what they are able to do. If a stylist is experienced enough to know their limitations then THAT is a good stylist.

Lisa is back. I am so thrilled to have my stylist back at Von Kekel. I love Aveda products and color and having my stylist Lisa back just completes the package. Now I can go back to having it all. She is fantastic with my thick unruly hair. She has taught me what to do to keep it in the best shape ever. I love Lisa and Von Kekel Salon.
