Go somewhere else – This review will have nothing to do with the quality of the food or if it was worth the price because I never made it that far. My wife and I went to Moonlight for dinner tonight and we were told by the girl at the bar that we could seat ourselves outside. We sat there for 15 minutes without so much as a hello from our server who walked by our table 5 times.
There are plenty of other resturants in town and most of them serve pizza. If your service sucks then your resturant will fail.
Thanks for nothing Moonlight,
Dinner at one your competitiors was delicous and the service was great.
Great pizza... absolutely terrible service – Let me start by saying that there were two good things about our visit: the pizza was amazing and it was nice to have outdoor seating. Now for the bad... we got there and waited for some direction on where to sit. After getting none, we seated ourselves and watched as the severs walked past us several times. We finally had our drink orders taken after about ten minutes and we also placed an order for hummice, thinking that the pizza was going to take a long time. We ordered a child's pizza and a large pizza for the adults. Time passed and the hummice didn't come. We got our pizza, and while it was good, they left out one topping we had asked for and also messed up the kid's pizza. We were starving by that point and just ate the pizza, which was really, really good, but we were so mad about the lack of service that the pizza isn't enough to get us to go back. Furthermore, when we got the bill, we were still billed for the hummice and had to ask to have it taken off. Overall awful service. I would never take my nephew back again due to the long service, but if I had a lot of time to kill, I might chance it again in hopes that they were just having an off day; the pizza really was good.
Moonlight is our favorite – We absolutely love Moonlight. We have gone to it for years and years. From its pitchers of good, local beer to the patio, to the themed calzones and pizzas.
Venus & Mars pizza is our yearly tradition for Valentines Day.
$20 pizza on a premade crust? – Very disappointing experience. Service was good, toppings appeared to be high quality (though not very well seasoned), but the crust ruined the whole thing. It was dry and tasteless and seemed even like it might have been pre-made? Surely for a $20 pizza, someone is back there tossing dough to make crusts - so on the way out I looked into the kitchen and there's a rack of crusts just sitting there drying out. We had 2 pies, a large four-seasons and a medium peperoni - and I was very excited about both, but both were a let-down.
Tried to send this comment via their website and the email was returned. I guess they are not interested in my feedback, so I'll post it here.
A true gem – We go to moonlight several times a month. It's especially pleasant when you can sit outside and relax- the closest thing Raleigh has to eating at an Italian cafe. The food is spectacular! The pizzas and salads((homemade dressings) are really the best in town-seriously. I have always had very attentive service here. I was shocked to read the unfavorable review above, for we have never had any problems w/service. This place is an undeservedly well-kept secret. It deserves to be wildly popular. I can't say enough good things about it and I am a very fussy former restaurant critic.
SO delicious! Who knew?! – Drove here around 5pm during the week and thought we were in the wrong place because it is small and unassuming. We walked in and thought the decor was casual but cozy. We sat down at a booth near the front and enjoyed kind, attentive service throughout. The menu looked great, and I ended up choosing the mezaluna calzone with pesto, cheese, and pinenuts, and my friend chose a stromboli and added prosciutto. When they came out to our table, both were steaming hot, BEAUTIFULLY made (you could tell they make them by hand and roll them up so nicely), and we couldn't wait to dig in. We both devoured them and I have been dreaming about that calzone ever since! Can't wait to go back! More expensive than your usual pizza place (ended up costing me about $15 with tip), but soooo worth it!!!
Maybe I went on a bad day... – So Mellow Mushroom was CROWDED as usual, so my husband remembered Moonlight. So we drive over to Morgan Street and walked right in the door and was sat down at a table on the patio within minutes. Unfortunatley, that was the only great thing, b/c the service was horrible! We had to flag a waiter down to take our drink order after waiting patiently for approx. 20-25 minutes. At that point, we figured it was best to go ahead and order everything which we told was not a problem. Another 35 minutes or so, the pizza arrives. Only another problem, we never received our two appetizers that we ordered. Nor was anyone at our table ever asked if they needed another drink. Finally got more drinks after asking about them. The water came out in a grungy looking glass with no ice. My friend said it tasted like toilet water! So she asked for a diet coke. Came out in yet another grungy glass with no ice. This time, the drink was flat and had no fizz what so ever. Third times a charm - the sweet tea was decent. Never during our visit did we complain. We only raised our hand to get someone's attention when we saw someone and needed something. Luckily the pizza wasn't bad. Pricing was average - not too steep for downtown. And lastly, our waiter could have cared less about us - he never checked on us, we basically had to work to get service. He literally only took our order and just disappeared. Too bad for him, b/c I tip well for great service! We really had a bad experience there and have no intentions of returning. We will take our chances and wait an hour and a half at Mellow Mushroom :o)
Delicious Pizza! – Best pizza in Raleigh!!! I would order it to go because the furniture is not very comfortable. I will eat here tonight probably even though I know it's not comfy.
Vegan Options – Offer a pizza called "Greenhouse Effect" that can be ordered with no cheese. Other vegetarian (not vegan) options on the menu as well.
Best pizza in town. The salads and desserts are great, too.
