Wickedsmile on my face.. (Asian Fusion): After all the years and hipster joints to go out of business, Five-Star is still the straight up shiz. I don't know how they've managed to do it year after year; but if you're looking for a place to take a first date or you just want to get wasted and see what happens...Five star rocks the 90's...in a good way.
Love Me Some Five Star.
yes, i know the staff, manager and owner. but only because my wife and i go there very often and through the years have become friends. and i get hugs and wonderful greetings when i enter. so yes, i may be somewhat biased. but i wouldn't continue to go back if the food wasn't delicious first. that's for damn sure! the decor is beautiful and music is always eclectic. we typically chow down on the apps as they offer a nice variety with subtle twists on some Asian classics. our favs our the heat-seeker shrimp, steamed dumplings, calamari and crispy green beans. my wife loves the scallion pancakes. as far as entrees go, i would recommend the crispy beef or 5 star chicken. NOTE-good to order a couple entrees amongst some friends and share.
great food and very reasonable prices in an awesome place. go get some.
Great Food, Awful Service. I'd have to say that the hipster atmosphere and delicious fusion of Asian dishes provides a nice setting for a fun group dinner. However, the service leaves much to be desired. At one point, I had to head to the bar to serve my own table drinks as our waitress had made herself unavailable and non-existent for much of the night. Then to my surprise, when we asked her to divide our bill amongst a few couples at the end of our evening, she handed us a calculator and asked if we could figure it our ourselves. I don't spend nearly $200 and expect to do math. The manager was less than helpful and after they charged us incorrectly 3 different times, they were neither apologetic nor willing to deduct from the excessive gratuity that was included in the bill and which I would have been more willing to contribute had the service actually been worth it. The experience left a really bad taste in my mouth and while I'd recommend in terms of cuisine I would ask that you be very very patient as the help needs a little help.
Never disappoints. I really do love this place. Great food and never really been disappointed. Only thing I dislike is the thai noodles will not satisfy your craving for pad thai.
One of the best experiences in the triangle. This is one resturant that I keep coming back to. Not only is their food excellent, original and imaginative, it's also consistent in it's food quality and service. The staff is friendly and make you feel very welcome.
Best Chinese Food.
I have chance went to Raleigh to visit my friend, and she took me to The Five Star;
I'm so surprise of those delicious CHINESE food, (because I'm a Chinese and I
knew about our own food); Five Star has nice atomosphere, creative decoration, good service.
Thank you, ..FIVE STAR! Great Job..... and the 5 Star Shirmp is the BEST.
We (Chines) never go to C.F. Chang; if you like real Chinese Food, Five Star is the place.
Love the food but hate the chopsticks.. This place has the best food I have ever had, better than the "wonderful" P.F. Changs. I usually have good service, but have had the experience with more than 6 people. The server won't come back because they know they will get their tip. However, they have huge portions. Whoever thinks they aren't big enough must be Jolly the Green Giant. But beware... if you aren't fluent with the chopsticks... they charge you $.75 to use a fork!!! And they don't even throw them away! They are steel, and dishwasher safe. Kind of a rip-off to me, even though it's only $.75. However, I will "fork" over the money, because it is a great place to eat!!!
Great appetizers and service!. I went with some friends the other night for dinner. The service was great and they have wonder appetizers. I will definitely be back soon!
Working-class minimalism rubs elbows with nouvelle cuisine at this hidden Chinese hot spot..
In Short
Although it was once an old tobacco warehouse, be prepared for serious city chic as you walk through the door. A long, stone bar and minimalist art complete the mood. The nouvelle Asian cuisine includes teriyaki beef--tenderloin glazed in sweet orange sauce, sprinkled with scallions and served with sauteed cabbage--and is as elegant as any of the dishes found at the more aristocratic restaurants in town, at a much better price.
Going back again. Went to 5-Star about a week ago after not going for a couple of years, and really enjoyed it. Great food, good service, servers were friendly. I was checking out the site to send it to friends and saw the last two reviews and couldn't disagree more! The food we ordered was delish, and we're planning on going back with friends.
