In Short – Moore Square is home to Raleigh's beloved acorn sculpture. Artist David Benson designed this half-ton copper squirrel snack to commemorate the city's bicentennial. It was privately commissioned, exempting it from complaint by local politicians. Sure, Raleigh has the Governor's Mansion and the State Capitol, but no visit to the City of Oaks is complete without getting a picture taken in front of the acorn.
