In Short – Following a rained out farmer's expo in 1940, N.C. State alum David Clark envisioned an indoor facility for the university, and in 1950 his dream came to fruition. Named for major contributor W.N. Reynolds (of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. fame) the arena quickly became a favorite destination for sporting events, university sponsored galas and even traveling circuses.

Fun Fact:
Jim Valvano led his "Cardiac Pack" to the national championship in 1983, and women's coach Kay Yow built a dynasty here that earned her a spot in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
